In the summer of 1996, a group of local businessmen and farmers began to take steps to organize a community bank. Based on feedback we received from area residents, farmers and businesses, the group realized that the many changes and consolidations occurring within the banking industry were beginning to affect the local availability of quality banking services. The members of this group were nearly all life-long residents of the area. As a result of significant research and discussion, over thirty local families pulled together to establish a new community bank.

On April 1, 1997 NorthStar Bank was issued its banking charter from the State of Iowa, including authorization from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to accept insured deposits. The strong support of the local farmers, families and businesses it was established to serve has made NorthStar Bank and Agency grow into the area’s premier banking and insurance institution. Our mission is to provide the area with top quality banking and insurance services that will help area residents reach their goals for success and happiness. With the acquisition of our Armstrong bank office is 2003, the opening of our new financial services building in 2004 and the acquisition of our Ringsted and downtown Estherville bank offices in 2012, NorthStar Bank is even better positioned to help you find your way to a “A Brighter Future”.
